PNC Bank

Most People Don't Think of Banking as "Green," but read on

Among America's top financial institutions, no company has done more to spur the charge, or energize the green cause than PNC. We have taken the lead when it comes to environmentally and employee friendly construction.
  • PNC has more newly constructed "green" buildings certified by the U.S. Green Building Council than any company on Earth.
  • PNC is the first U.S. bank to apply green building standards to all newly constructed or renovated retail branch offices.

How Painting Purcellville Green got its name

Painting Purcellville Green will be four years old this year with the event on April 30, 2011. We got the name "through the back door" when one of our committee members took on the task of getting a logo for the event by employing the considerable talents of his sister who actually came up with the name Painting Purcellville Green. It just goes to show you that sometimes a fresh pair of eyes can be a big asset.

We all loved the name the first time we heard (and saw) it, but none of us really thought about what it meant . . . and of course it means many things to many people, just like any good slogan or idea does. I guess to the cynic it could mean we're trying to cover something up, but to me it means something much more enticing and grand.

When we paint something, we are covering up something - something old for something new. Making things new and fresh and better. When we Paint Purcellville Green we are showing our fellow citizens a new way, a better way to be stewards of the environment, not just idealogically, but practically with ways to manage our own individual environments at home, where we work and in our community.

It's contageous. The first year we had seven vendors or artitsans or participants and this year we will have 24. I started the Purcellville Committee on the Environment with the blessing and backing of the mayor to help every member of our community find practical, helpful and meaningful ways to live better in a green way, and I couldn't be more proud of what we have accomplished in three short years.

So come on out on the 28th. It will be the best 4 hours of the Spring
